President’s Challenge: Past President’s Gift for Scholarship Initiatives

Last week (June 27, 2022), DCAT Member Companies and their guests enjoyed a day on the golf course with colleagues at the Annual DCAT Scholarship Golf Outing. The Golf Outing supports the initiatives of the organization and its volunteer-led committee, the Science & Scholarship Committee, which focuses on a variety of projects, including the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair, the world’s largest international pre-college science competition.

In addition to the host of Member Companies that supported the event, a new initiative was added this year. Milton Boyer, CEO, Meridian Medical Technologies, and past DCAT President (2016-2017), introduced a new challenge for DCAT’s Past Presidents. “Supporting the needs of today’s science students and educators through DCAT projects, grants, and member-supported initiatives is one of the best ways we can give back,” Boyer said. The DCAT Past President’s Gift for Scholarship Initiatives urged those who have been fortunate to lead the association to gift the Scholarship Fund and show their continued support for these important scholarship projects.

During the Golf Outing’s Awards Banquet, Mr. Boyer took to the microphone and thanked all the participants and sponsors and was pleased to announce that his challenge to the Past Presidents had raised an additional $15,000 for DCAT’s scholarship fund.

“We are delighted that Milton Boyer took up this challenge and raised these funds for scholarship projects. It is indeed an honor to lead the organization, and I am so proud of our past presidents who answered his call,” said Kerri McCullough Wood, Teva API, and current President of DCAT.

The DCAT Science & Scholarship Committee, chaired by Jason Bertola, Lonza, facilitated DCAT’s participation at the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF), which was held in May (May 2022). This year’s ISEF brought together 1,750 high school students from more than 49 states and 63 countries, regions, and territories worldwide to showcase their independent research and compete for scholarship grants.

DCAT’s participation in the ISEF allows the organization to invest in the bio/pharmaceutical industry’s future by supporting young scholars who represent the geographic regions and areas of study reflected in the global membership of DCAT. DCAT participated as one of more than 40 Special Awards Organizations representing government, industry, and education across various scientific disciplines that provide awards from their organizations.
