Chiesi Completes $1.9-Bn Acquisition of KalVista
Chiesi Group, a Parma, Italy-based bio/pharmaceutical company, has completed its $1.9-billion acquisition of KalVista Pharmaceuticals, a Framingham, Massachusetts-based commercial-stage bio/pharmaceutical company. The companies had announced the acquisition in April (April 2026).
KalVista’s lead product is Ekterly (sebetralstat) for treating hereditary angioedema (HAE), a rare genetic disease resulting in episodes of tissue swelling in various locations of the body. Following its launch in the US in July 2025, sebetralstat had 2025 sales of $49 million. In addition to the US, the drug is approved in the UK, European Union, Japan, Switzerland, Australia, and Singapore, with multiple regulatory applications under review in other markets. Studies for treating HAE attacks in children aged 2 to 11 are ongoing, with a US regulatory filing planned for 2026 to expand use to children aged 2–11.
Chiesi successfully completed its tender offer for all outstanding shares of KalVista common stock for $27.00 per share in cash through a merger of a wholly owned subsidiary of Chiesi with and into KalVista. As a result of the merger, KalVista became a wholly owned subsidiary of Chiesi.
