Gilead Breaks Ground on New US Development & Mfg Center
Gilead Sciences has broken ground on a new pharmaceutical development and manufacturing technical development center at the company’s Foster City, California, headquarters. The investment is part of Gilead’s planned $32-billion investment in the US through 2030.
The five-story, 180,000-square-foot-facility will serve as a hub for innovation and collaboration across technical development and manufacturing teams to build biologics capacity and capabilities. Designed with flexible pilot lab space and digital infrastructure, the facility is designed to accelerate technology transfer and support the advancement of biologics across Gilead’s pipeline. It will feature digitally enabled systems, autonomous robotics, and real-time digital monitoring.
This investment builds on Gilead’s broader US efforts to expand research and a broader expansion at the company’s Foster City headquarters. The company is currently developing two other facilities: a new research building designed to accelerate scientific discovery, already under construction, and a biologics manufacturing facility that will expand domestic production capacity.
