Roche’s Genentech Breaks Ground on $750-M Device Fill–Finish US Facility Expansion
Roche’s Genentech has broken ground on a $750-million, 211,000-square-foot expansion of its manufacturing facility in Hillsboro, Oregon, to add device fill–finish capabilities, including the manufacturing of combination products. The investment is part of Roche’s and Genentech’s previously announced multi-year $50-billion commitment to R&D and manufacturing infrastructure in the US.
The expansion will include both high- and low-volume filling capabilities and will manufacture a broad range of medicines across the company’s portfolio in oncology, neurology, and immunology. Commercial operations are planned to begin in 2031.
The expansion builds on the company’s recent US manufacturing and investment milestones in Holly Springs, North Carolina, and Boston, Massachusetts. In August (August 2026), the company reported that it had completed the structural framework of a new $2-billion biomanufacturing facility in Holly Springs. Once operational, facility will produce treatments for metabolic conditions, such as obesity. Earlier this month (September 2026), the company opened Roche Genentech Innovation Center Boston, a 95,000-square-foot center focused on bio/pharmaceuticals for cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases and brings together scientists from across discovery research, clinical development, AI and data-science disciplines involved in early-stage discovery through late-stage clinical development. Roche and Genentech signed a 10-year lease for the center, which will have capacity for up to 500 people across research, clinical development, data science, and other areas.
Roche and Genentech have approximately 25,000 employees in the US, with 15 R&D centers and 13 manufacturing sites.
