Cambrex Breaks Ground on $120-M Small-Molecule, Peptide Expansion
Cambrex has broken ground on a $120-million expansion at its Charles City, Iowa, facility, which will add 160,000 liters of manufacturing capacity to increase the site’s total capacity by approximately 25% to nearly one million liters to support the development and commercial manufacturing of small-molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and synthetic peptides. The project is anticipated to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2028.

The Charles City facility provides development and manufacturing services for small-molecule APIs, synthetic peptides, and pharmaceutical intermediates from clinical development through commercial-scale production.

Codis Provides Update on Spray-Drying Expansion
Codis, a CDMO specializing in spray drying, amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs), and particle engineering, has provided an update on its ongoing PSD-4 expansion at the company’s site in Haverhill, UK.

The demolition of existing redundant facilities is now complete, which makes space for the construction of a new building and the next stage of Codis’ investment in a GEA Pharma-SD type PSD-4 solvent-capable spray dryer. Following installation and validation, the PSD-4 spray dryer will expand Codis’ commercial-scale solvent-based spray-drying capacity for ASDs. The PSD-4 expansion remains on schedule, with the next key milestone, the Dryer Factory Acceptance Test, due to take place in November. The new spray-dying capacity is expected to become available in the last quarter of 2027.
