Capsugel Expands Micronization Capabilities

Capsugel, a contract provider of dosage forms, has expanded its facility in Quakertown, Pennsylvania to increase its micronization services for clinical and commercial manufacturing. The company will double the size of its current pilot-scale capacity for clinical-trial quantities and increase the number of suites dedicated to commercial manufacturing. Micronization of active pharmaceutical ingredients is accomplished using jet-milling equipment.

In addition to enabling increased capacity, the added suites will feature single-use containment technologies for potent and highly potent compounds. The new equipment and suites are scheduled to be operational by January 2017.

The Quakertown facility, which Capsugel acquired as part of its purchase of Xcelience, a Tampa, Florida-based contract development and manufacturing organization, and Powdersize, a Quakertown-based contract provider of micronization services, in January 2016, operates as a provider of particle-size reduction and particle-size control/classification technologies for pharmaceutical customers..
