ACG has launched a new capsule manufacturing facility in Brazil and is expanding capsule production at its facilities in Croatia and India. Kamlesh Oza, PhD, Senior Vice President, ACG, outlined the company’s recent investments at the DCAT Week ’19 Member Company Announcement Forum, which was held March 18, 2019 in New York.

Oza highlighted the company’s new facility in Pouso Alegre-Minas Gerais, Brazil, which represents an investment of approximately 350 million Brazilian Real ($91 million). The plant, which was launched in February of this year (2019), spans an area of approximately 14,000 square meters. Following ACG’s acquisition of Nova Nordeplast, a films and foils company, this is the second ACG manufacturing facility in the region. Both will serve the Latin American region and neighboring areas.

The company is also investing in capsule production in India. ACG’s facility in Dahanu, India, which produces gelatin and hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) capsules, is undergoing a 10,000-plus-square-meter expansion. The expansion began in January 2019 and is scheduled to be completed in 2021. The added space will bring additional capacities for the US Food and Drug Administration-inspected, EXCiPACT-certified plant to serve local and export markets.

Oza also highlighted another investment by the company in Croatia to increase capsule production. Since 2007, ACG has operated a facility in Zagreb, Croatia that it purchased from the capsule manufacturer, Lukaps, with tthe 23,000-square-meter facility subsequently named ACG Lukaps. Citing demand by European customers, the company is expanding the facility, which is expected to be completed by 2020.
