Almac Appoints Head of Manufacturing Operations
Almac Group, a Craigavon, UK-based contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and drug products, has appointed David Taylor as Head of Manufacturing Operations. Taylor joined the Almac Group in November 2017 as Head of Manufacturing, Almac Sciences.
In his new role, he is tasked with the overall accountability for small-molecule API and peptide manufacturing in Craigavon and delivering on Almac’ Sciences’ supply-chain operations at the Craigavon site. Taylor has worked in the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries for over 22 years and brings with him a background in technical operations and manufacturing.
Taylor worked as a chemist transferring fine chemicals and API manufacturing processes from lab-scale through to full commercial scale. He transferred from research and development into manufacturing, leading large teams of shift operators for the cGMP manufacture of a range of APIs and registered intermediates at ChiRex (now Sterling Pharma).
Following that, Taylor gained experience in manufacturing, project, and program management and has led teams to deliver projects in preclinical process development and multi-gram synthesis to early-phase multi-kilo manufacture through to late-phase, full-scale process validation, product stability, and regulatory filing submission. He has worked at sites around the UK for Piramal Healthcare, Aesica Pharmaceuticals, a CDMO, and the Wasdell Group (formerly SCM Pharma), where he gained senior leadership experience in drug product manufacturing and was accountable on the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and Home office licenses.
