Almac Group, a contract development and manufacturing organization, has expanded its UK commercial packaging facility with the acquisition of a stick sachet packaging line from Merz, a Lich, Germany-headquartered custom packaging company. The company says that the acquisition is in response to demand for specialist packaging solutions for pediatric drug products, specifically powders, mini-tabs, or granules into stickpack sachets.

This investment was made in partnership with a long-term commercial US client who sought an integrated commercial manufacturing and packaging solution for the supply of its new pediatric formulation drug product to the European Union.

To facilitate the packaging of pediatric dosage forms, an investment was made in Merz stickpack technology. The Merz SBL-50 stickpack technology is an automated forming, filling, and sealing machine capable of filling 80 stickpacks/minute.
