Aprecia Plans Expansion for 3-D Printing for Pharmaceuticals
Aprecia Pharmaceuticals, a specialty pharmaceutical company with a three-dimensional printing (3DP) platform, plans to expand a facility in Blue Ash, Ohio. Aprecia plans to invest $25 million in the 190,000-square-foot facility.
Apprecia is headquartered in Langhorne, Pennsylvania and as a manufacturing facility in East Windsor, New Jersey. The company develops and manufactures quick-dispersing pharmaceutical products on a commercial scale using its 3-D printing technology platform. The company’s first innovation that uses 3-D printing is its proprietary ZipDose technology, which is used in multiple product candidates.
The ZipDose technology is Aprecia’s delivery platform that serves as the foundation of its orodispersible formulations of high-dose medications. It combines the dosing of tablets with the swallowing ease of liquids in a single, quick-dispersing form. The ZipDose technology uses the company’s 3DP platform. This process stitches together multiple layers of powdered medication using an aqueous fluid to produce a porous, water-soluble matrix that rapidly disperses with a sip of water.
