BI Signs Pact For Smart Inhaler

Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) and Qualcomm, a San Diego-based wireless technologies company, have formed a collaboration to develop a connectivity solution for BI's Respimat inhaler, the company's platform inhaler for its family of respiratory therapies, to help improve chronic obstructive pulmonary disease treatment outcomes. The partnership has been formed through Qualcomm's subsidiary, Qualcomm Life.

Qualcomm Life is developing a prototype for a small, wireless, low-power, disposable module for the Respimat inhaler, which is designed to connect with Qualcomm Life's 2net platform, allowing the company to track puffs from the Respimat inhaler. The collected information can be shared with healthcare providers and people who have been prescribed one of BI's Respimat medicines.
