Cellca, Synpromics in Biologics Production Pact
Sartorius Stedim Cellca (Cellca), a Laupheim, Germany-based company specializing in mammalian cell-line and upstream process development, has formed a collaboration with Synpromics, an Edinburgh, UK-based synthetic promoter and gene control company, to evaluate and test Synpromics’ synthetic promoters with Cellca’s mammalian production cell platform.
The goal of the program is to reduce timelines and increase yields with the development of stable cell lines for the production of biopharmaceuticals.
Cellca has developed a system for producing biologicals using Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, known as the Cellca CHO Expression Platform. The system consists of a proprietary cell line, growth medium, expression cassettes, and fed-batch process. Synpromics has developed a panel of CHO-specific synthetic promoters, using its proprietary PromPT platform, designed and selected for expression of recombinant proteins.
Synthetic promoters are DNA sequences that do not exist in nature and which are designed to regulate the activity of genes, controlling a gene’s ability to produce its own encoded protein.
