Fareva Acquires Former Merck API Mfg Facility

Fareva, a custom manufacturer of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and household chemicals, has acquired the former La Vallée manufacturing site of Merck & Co. Inc. in Saint-Germain-Laprade, France, nearby Le Puy en Velay (Haute-Loire), France. This acquisition adds to the company’s 35 facilities in 11 countries.

The La Vallée site manufacturers active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) with a team of 130 employees. With a total reactor capacity of 128,000 liters in large- and small-scale workshops, the facility nearly doubles Fareva’s API capacity from its existing facilities in Feucht (Excella/Germany), Val de Reuil (Valdepharm/France) and Romainville (Fareva Romainville/France).

Farvea plans to further strengthen the capabilities of the site by investing approximately EUR 25 million ($28 million) into an OEB 4 high-containment facility. Two separated compartments with 4,000-liter reactors and high-containment dryers will be operational in mid-2017. In addition a hastelloy flow train for cryogenic chemistry at 2 to 10 cubic meter scale is also under development. The facility can accommodate additional production to satisfy potential customers.

Fareva La Vallée was built in 1985 and has a high quality and safety record. The site manufactures large- and small-volume APIs for highly regulated markets.
