GE Healthcare Acquires Biosafe And Expands Sealed Air Partnership

GE Healthcare has acquired Biosafe Group, a Lake Geneva, Switzerland-based supplier of integrated cell bioprocessing systems, for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition of Biosafe expands GE Healthcare's end-to-end ecosystem of products, solutions and services for cell therapy customers, and expands GE's technology reach to new cell and therapy types.

In 2016, GE announced further investments in the cell therapy and regenerative medicine space, including the launch of Vitruvian Networks, an independent platform for accelerating access to cell and gene therapies, and BridGE@CCRM Cell Therapy Center of Excellence, a $31.5 million co-investment with the Canadian Government to promote new technologies for producing cellular therapies in Toronto.

In addition to the Biosafe acquisition, GE Healthcare's Life Sciences business has expanded a strategic alliance with Sealed Air Corporation, a manufacturer of pharmaceutical primary films based in Charlotte, North Carolina. This agreement marks the next stage of a long-term collaboration between GE Healthcare and Sealed Air, following a research and development agreement that created a new film for use across GE Healthcare's full single-use portfolio.
