GSK Appoints Chief Digital & Technology Officer
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has appointed Karenann Terrell as chief digital and technology officer with a company-wide remit to transform how new technologies are used to improve performance across the group. Terrell will join GSK on September 4, 2017 and will be a member of the corporate executive team.
In this new role, Terrell will be responsible for developing GSK’s digital, data, and analytics strategy. She will work with partners from inside and outside the healthcare sector to bring new technologies to GSK with the goal of enhancing areas such as clinical trials and drug development, improving how the company interacts with healthcare personnel, customers, and consumers, and making internal processes more efficient.
“The impact of technology on the healthcare industry is accelerating and requires us to rethink our approach. As a member of the executive team, Karenann will have the scope to think radically about how we can exploit the latest opportunities and ultimately improve our business performance,” said GSK Chief Executive Officer Emma Walmsley in a company statement.
Terrell’s previous role was chief information officer for Walmart, where she led a multi-year effort to transform Walmart in the use of data, analytics, and digital engagement with its customers. Prior to Walmart, Terrell was chief information officer at Baxter International and prior to that was with Daimler Chrysler. She began her career in 1986 in General Motors and held various roles in manufacturing, engineering, and brand management. She ended her career there as director of e-vehicles.
