GSK Launches Three-Year $2.5-Bn Restructuring Program

GSK has initiated a three-year £1.9 billion ($2.5 billion) restructuring program, which it has dubbed as the “Accelerate Growth” program as part of a goal to align the company’s organization and cost base to its evolving product portfolio and enable the reallocation of GSK’s capital and resources to its late-stage pipeline and R&D programs. The company made the announcement as part of its second-quarter 2026 results released this week (July 28, 2026).

The program is targeting £1.9 billion ($2.5 billion) of annual savings, to be fully realized by 2029, for expected total costs of £2.4 billion ($3.2 billion), of which £2.1 billion ($2.8 billion) is expected to be cash costs. Savings will be primarily reinvested in R&D, including business development activity, with a portion also used to strengthen operating margins for dolutegravir, which faces upcoming loss of exclusivity between 2028 and 2030, the active ingredient in several of GSK’s HIV drugs, including Tivicay (dolutegravir), and other combination products.

Cost savings are expected to be enabled by technology and AI and generated by streamlining support services and process redesign, including procurement delivery, the reallocation of resources to specialty medicines from established products, and further simplification of the supply chain and the company’s site network to align with portfolio evolution.
