Pfizer to Close Two UK Plants
Pfizer has proposed closing two of its UK supply facilities following a review of its global supply network, the company said in a statement distributed to the media. The company is closing the Hospira UK Ltd (Aseptic Services) Compounding site at Park Royal in North London and the Pfizer packaging and distribution site in Havant. Pfizer expects to exit the Hospira facility by May 2017 and the packaging and distribution site by the end of 2020.
In its media statement, Pfizer said: “The proposed decision to exit these sites is not a reflection of the excellent work performed by our colleagues. It is important to note that these proposals are in no way related to the result of the Brexit decision. Our priority at this time is to support affected colleagues and where possible to mitigate against job losses resulting from these proposals.”
The company has informed government and local representatives of its decision and said it will continue to work with them as these proposals move forward.
Pfizer gained the Hospira UK Ltd facility with its $17 billion acquisition of Hospira over a year ago in September 2015. The move boosted Pfizer’s sterile injectables and biosimilars portfolios.
