Takeda Transfers CMC Business to CMO Partner

Takeda Pharmaceutical has formed a partnership with Bushu Pharmaceuticals Limited, a Saitama, Japan-based contract manufacturing organization, under which Takeda will transfer a part of its pharmaceutical sciences/chemistry, manufacturing, and controls (CMC) business to Bushu. Bushu, as a strategic partner of Takeda, will deliver on process chemistry, formulation and analytical development as well as development, manufacturing, and associated work of clinical trial materials.

This partnership aims to improve Takeda’s operating efficiencies while enabling Bushu to broaden its current service offerings and global reach. In addition, under the agreement, Bushu will acquire a wholly owned subsidiary of Takeda in the second quarter of 2017 that Takeda will establish in the first quarter of the year via an absorption-type company split. This subsidiary will encompass a part of Takeda’s pharmaceutical sciences business, including approximately 200 Takeda employees and a significant part of its research and development manufacturing facilities in Juso, Japan.
