WuXi AppTec, a Shanghai, China-headquartered contract service provider, has appointed Edward Hu, the company’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), as Co-Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. Hu will continue to report to Dr. Ge Li, Chairman and CEO of WuXi AppTec.

As the company’s Co-CEO, Hu will share business management responsibilities with Dr. Li, including the small-molecule drug discovery, development, manufacturing services, and drug and medical device testing services. Hu will continue to act as the CFO in charge of corporate finance, investment, and mergers and acquisitions, until a new CFO comes on board.

Since joining WuXi in 2007, Hu has served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), and later CFO and Chief Investment Officer. Over the past decade, the company says he has had achievements in operational excellence, financial management, and WuXi’s global business expansion. Hu was elected to the Board of Directors in March 2016.

Prior to WuXi, Hu served as Senior Vice President and COO at Tanox, a Houston, Texas-based biopharmaceutical company. His earlier career spanned managerial and financial positions at Biogen and Merck.
