Takeda, Zydus Cadila Partner to Tackle Infectious Disease
Takeda Pharmaceutical and Zydus Cadila, an Ahmedabad, India-based pharmaceutical company, have formed a partnership to tackle chikungunya, an emerging infectious disease in Africa, Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. Terms have not been disclosed, but the partnership agreement covers early-stage development through the final commercialization of the vaccine.
Chikungunya has been identified in over 60 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas, according to information from Takeda. It is a viral disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes.The chikungunya virus is most often spread to people by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, the same vectors that spread dengue and Zika.
